Skirmish on Rodia

During the Clone Wars period, specifically in 20 BBY, a minor battle unfolded on the planet of Rodia. Following his involvement in the escape of the Hutt prisoner, Ziro Desilijic Tiure, from Republic detention on Coruscant, the bounty hunter known as Robonino sought refuge from the Republic's reach, establishing his headquarters on Rodia. To power his enhanced battle droids, Robonino installed an underwater generator, which soon began to negatively impact the local wildlife. Onaconda Farr, Rodia's senator, requested the assistance of a Jedi to investigate the disturbances. Consequently, High Jedi General Kit Fisto was dispatched with a squad of clone troopers. While the clone commander and his troops engaged and defeated the droids within the base, Fisto located the underwater generator. Rather than apprehend Robonino, Fisto was compelled to destroy the generator, allowing the bounty hunter to flee. However, a Kwazel Maw creature unexpectedly emerged and regurgitated the defeated Robonino directly in front of the Republic forces, leading to the mercenary's capture.

Prelude

Robonino's established headquarters

During the Clone Wars's 20 BBY, Cad Bane, a bounty hunter, assembled a team of hunters with the purpose of liberating Ziro Desilijic Tiure, a Hutt crime lord, from the Republic Judiciary Central Detention Center situated on Coruscant, the Galactic Republic's capital. Ziro had been arrested for offenses against the Republic. The hunters successfully executed their mission, escaping with Ziro. Bane then distributed the agreed-upon monetary reward to his accomplices and instructed them to scatter and evade capture by the Republic. Robonino, a Patrolian slicer within the team, journeyed to Rodia and established a headquarters at an abandoned station on the planet.

To power his modified [battle droids](/article/battle_droid-legends], Robonino installed an underwater generator for the droids. However, the generator's emissions soon began to harm the local wildlife. Onaconda Farr, Rodia's senator in the Galactic Senate, fearing the return of the Confederacy of Independent Systems to Rodia, requested a Jedi investigation into the disturbances. Kit Fisto, a High Jedi General, arrived with a squad of clone troopers. Directed to the abandoned station by Farr, Fisto, accompanied by several troopers, entered the water to investigate the cause of the disruption to the planet's ecosystem, while his clone SCUBA commander remained on the surface to search the outpost.

The skirmish

Upon entering the abandoned station, the clone commander issued orders for his forces to disperse, cautioning his troops about potential hidden battle droids. Two B1-series battle droids detected the intruders, leading to an ambush by B1 and B2 battle droids, alongside BX-series droid commandos and droidekas. These droids were reactivated by Robonino from the remnants of a previous Confederate droid deployment to Rodia. Despite the ambush, the clones successfully fought their way through the base, eliminating all the droids.

Robonino flees from Fisto.

Underwater, Fisto and his clone SCUBA troopers discovered the droid generator, which immediately targeted two troopers with its laser cannons, resulting in their death. Fisto soon spotted Robonino attempting to escape. As the bounty hunter fired his blaster at the Jedi Master, he also launched several [thermal detonators](/article/thermal_detonator-legends] towards Fisto. Utilizing the Force, Fisto was able to redirect the explosives into the droid generator, destroying it and disabling the battle droids. However, this action resulted in Robonino's escape.

Aftermath

Fisto rationalized his decision, believing that allowing Robonino to escape was a worthwhile trade-off for eliminating the source of the disturbances affecting the local wildlife. The Jedi Master informed Farr that the disturbances were not caused by a Confederate outpost, but by a "skilled vandal" whose actions had unintended consequences for Rodian wildlife. Unexpectedly, a native Kwazel Maw emerged from the water and spat out Robonino directly in front of Fisto, Farr, and the remaining clone troopers, allowing them to apprehend Robonino.

Behind the scenes

The Rodia skirmish was initially depicted in Hunting the Hunters (Part II), a comic from the online The Clone Wars webcomic series, which served as a bridge between the first and second seasons of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series that began in 2008.

The comic and Swamp Station Sweep, an online game released on StarWars.com and based on the events of the comic, were not entirely consistent with each other. No specific continuity was established between the comic and the game, and it was implied that Robonino was present both on land and underwater. This article assumes that Robonino was underwater, as depicted in the webcomic.

While The Official Star Wars Fact File Part 28 states that all of Fisto's clone troopers were killed upon finding Robonino's droid generator, this contradicts the webcomic, which shows only two troopers being killed. This article assumes the webcomic's version of events is the accurate one.
