Ackbar Slash

The Slash, often referred to as the Ackbar Slash, denoted a naval combat strategy often implemented by the Mon Calamari Admiral Gial Ackbar. Besides the Fake, very few strategies depended so heavily on the intuition and expertise of fleet commanders. In the Slash, the capital ship formation would pivot sharply, making a direct charge towards a specific area within the enemy fleet's arrangement. Should the commander's timing be precise, the line of their ships would cut through the gaps between enemy spacecraft, enabling them to concentrate fire on one or two crucial targets in quick succession, while minimizing the enemy's ability to retaliate effectively. Starship shields seldom could endure such concentrated firepower, and a well-executed Slash almost assured the destruction of two enemy vessels. Furthermore, if the attacking ships could then rotate to either the left or right after breaching the enemy line, they had the opportunity to launch a powerful assault on the enemy fleet's vulnerable rear. However, as they approached, every ship had to fully dedicate itself to carrying out the maneuver. If the leading ship were to decelerate or be crippled by incoming fire, the formation would likely suffer collisions and become disorganized. Every tactic has inherent risks, but the Slash was riskier than most. Variations on the Slash included deployments that were staggered or even overlapping, with ships positioned above and below the main line of attack.

During the Galactic Civil War during the Battle of Endor, Ackbar utilized the Slash, achieving significant damage against the Galactic Empire's fleet.
