Sluis Van Central space station

When the highly advanced Sluissi species became a part of the fledgling Galactic Republic, they constructed several significant shipyards across the Sluis sector. A notable space station among these was the state-of-the-art Sluis Van Central space station. This station, also known as the Sluis Van space facility, fulfilled similar functions to other Sluissi-operated stations. It provided services to starship pilots who required maintenance either before embarking on, or after concluding, their various missions.

History

Luke Skywalker and Niles Ferrier in the station shortly after the Battle of Sluis Van.

In 9 ABY, subsequent to Grand Admiral Thrawn's raid on the Sluis Van Shipyards, which was defeated by New Republic forces, the station became extremely busy with requests for repairs. The Sluissi gave priority to their own defense vessels over the Republic fleet and civilian ships, which frustrated Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. Skywalker needed new Hyperdrive motivators for his X-wing so he could travel to Coruscant and prevent the political removal of Supreme Commander Ackbar. With the assistance of his friend, General Wedge Antilles, Skywalker attempted to use diplomacy to expedite his repair, but Antilles's attempts were denied by a data pusher in the system.

Behind the scenes

The Sluis Van Central space station made an appearance in Timothy Zahn's 1992 novel, Dark Force Rising, and it was later mentioned in the Dark Force Rising Sourcebook, which was an adaptation of the novel for the West End Games Star Wars roleplaying game. The part that described the Sluissi species, and referenced the facility, was later included in The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook, a summary of the sourcebooks created for each novel in Zahn's trilogy.
