Smileredon-Verdont

Smileredon-Verdont, most famously known as Smiley, was a Squib male distinguished by his blue fur and yellow eyes.

Biography

Despite his claims of being born aboard the Wholesale, the flagship of the Squib Reclamation Fleet, Smiley actually originated from Metrobig City located on Skor II. At the young age of seven, his parents, both involved in industrial trading, gave him away to another family in return for a mining borelifter.

Smileredon-Verdont eventually became a companion to a trader hailing from the Minos Cluster. During this period, Smiley asserted that he and the trader visited the planet of Yelsain and "tamed the woods" found there. It was during this time that Smiley adopted the attire of a Yelsain tree-dweller. Some years later, the trader's ship was impounded, leading Smiley to roam the Outer Rim Territories.

He professed to be a master of the Mystic Martial Arts of Squib Combats and Transactions, although the veracity of this statement remains questionable.

Prior to the Battle of Yavin, the Squib allied himself with Raal Yorta and Sammie Staable. While Raal and Sammie pursued bounties, Smiley worked as a pickpocket, pilfering credits and chronos.

Behind the scenes

The character of Smiley was inspired by a roleplayed character created by Orrin Marko in the Rebel Breakout scenario of the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, which was gamemastered by Pablo Hidalgo.

In 1996, Hidalgo incorporated the character into the West End Games sourcebook titled Heroes & Rogues as a practical illustration of the "Annoying Squib" character archetype.

Smiley's original complete name, as envisioned by Hidalgo, was Smileredon-Verdonté. However, due to the limitations of the West End Games format, which did not support the special character é, the name was published as Smileredon-Verdont.
