Snogar

The Snogars, a tall and furry sentient species, hailed from the ice-laden planet Ota, situated in the Mid Rim. These beings were descendants of a technologically sophisticated civilization known as the "Old Ones," who had constructed cities within Ota's icy canyons. As time passed, the Snogars lost the ability to utilize their ancestors' technology, regressing to more basic ways of life within their ancient urban centers. By the year 1 ABY, this decline had escalated into a significant crisis, as the Snogars found themselves unable to maintain the heating systems essential for keeping their dwellings habitable, thereby endangering their existence on their extremely cold homeworld.

Biological Traits and Physical Appearance

From the icy Mid Rim planet Ota came the Snogars, a furry apelike species of humanoids. These creatures were physically imposing, with adult Snogars reaching an average height of 2.5 meters, and possessed limited intellectual capacity. Despite being native to Ota, the Snogars struggled to endure the planet's frigid conditions, relying on heating devices within their cities for a modicum of comfort. They were characterized by substantial fur manes surrounding their heads, and their simian-like, purple faces were often concealed behind masks designed to shield them from Ota's intense cold.

Social Structure and Cultural Practices

The Snogars originated from a highly intelligent society, later called the "Old Ones," who built urban centers inside Ota's ice canyons. However, they ultimately forgot how to operate their sophisticated technology, transforming into the Snogars, who eked out a rudimentary existence within the ruins of their predecessors. Despite this decline, the Snogars retained the capacity to utilize some basic technologies, such as stun nets, and they navigated the planet's snowy landscapes using snowboard-like vehicles known as powersliders.

Historical Background

In the millennia leading up to the Galactic Civil War, Ota was home to a thriving civilization. However, over thousands of years, the intelligent and technologically advanced "Old Ones" gradually devolved into the primitive Snogars, who faced difficulties in maintaining the equipment necessary to keep their society habitable. By 1 ABY, the situation had become dire, as the Snogars were no longer capable of operating the hydroelectric generators that powered the heating systems crucial for their survival. Consequently, the Snogars initiated a search for offworlders who might possess the technical expertise to assist them. Their hopes were seemingly realized when a group of Snogars captured Rebel pilot Luke Skywalker and Boba Fett, attempting to coerce them into repairing their generators. However, this encounter only resulted in the deaths of several Snogars and the abandonment of their city by the natives, who fled from a vengeful Fett.

Behind the Curtains

The Snogars made their debut in The Frozen World of Ota, a comic strip storyline penned by Russ Manning, Rick Hoberg, and Don Christensen, which was released in 1980.
