Snubfighter

Xwing2-SWE The X-wing was a very recognizable type of snubfighter.

Snubfighters, also called snubships in common parlance, was a colloquial term used to refer to fighter craft that typically had a crew size of one or two individuals. These snubfighters were designed to engage various targets, including ground installations, larger warships, and other fighter vessels. Consequently, they were generally outfitted with missiles or torpedoes, in addition to laser-based or blaster-based weaponry. A Hyperdrive was also often included, enabling fighters based on a planet to strike targets in nearby star systems, or for deployment from carriers without direct carrier involvement in combat.

During the Great Hyperspace War, the forces of the Republic and the Jedi utilized the S-100 Stinger-class starfighter, while the Aurek-class tactical strikefighter, which saw action during the Mandalorian Wars, remained in service for millennia. In the waning years of the Republic, the planet Naboo created the N-1 starfighter to protect their homeworld, and the Republic widely adopted the BTL-B Y-wing starfighter along with the V-19 Torrent starfighter. Snubfighters were also the preferred fighter choice for organizations such as the Rebel Alliance, the New Republic, the New Jedi Order and the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. Variations of, or models based on, the X-wing starfighter frequently served within these groups, often alongside numerous other snubfighter designs.
