The Solay Royal Guard served as the military force on the planet of Solay. They were staunch supporters of the tyrannical Solay Royal Court, which was under the rule of King Blackart. These guards were distinguished by their substantial armor, notably helmets that provided extensive head coverage. While they carried blaster weaponry, the cumbersome nature of their armor hindered their effectiveness in combat. In the Battle of Solay, which resulted in the overthrow of the royal court, the royal guard proved unable to stop the rebel forces, led by Raggold and the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, from successfully capturing the King.

Skywalker found the guard's attacks to be remarkably weak during the conflict, and he could easily topple them. Their bulky armor caused them to lose balance, which allowed the rebels to easily outmaneuver them.
