Southern Mustafarians were one of two distinct subspecies of Mustafarians. These subspecies underwent separate evolutionary paths within subterranean cave systems. They collaborated to extract precious minerals from the flowing lava and maintained a trading partnership with the Techno Union. Possessing greater heat tolerance, Southern Mustafarians were also more robust and powerful. Their build was stout and their height was limited to 1.5 meters, and they were responsible for all physical labor. Although their hide was resilient against blaster fire, they still needed protective armor for working in close proximity to the lava in their volcanic environment. Southern Mustafarians organized themselves into clanholds. A Force-sensitive Father named Kkkt was the leader of one of these clans. Following the seismic impact of Fortress Vader's construction on Mustafar, Kkkt reached out to other clanholds and commanded a force to assault the fortress.
