The space-time-warping gate functioned as an energy shield, safeguarding the entrance to an unidentified monolith. Its manipulation was exclusively possible via the Force, meaning only a Force-sensitive individual possessed the capacity to traverse into the monolith.
The Columi brothers, Craitheus and Marvid Qreph, made a discovery of the monolith and its protective space-time-warping gate in 45 ABY. To facilitate their study, they constructed Base Prime above the gate. The Qrephs came to the conclusion that Force users were the only ones capable of entering and consequently, they employed the mercenary Savara Raine to assist with bypassing the gate. Despite her apprehension regarding the monolith's power, Raine consented to enter in order to evaluate its capabilities. The Mandalorian Barduun accompanied Raine as a support measure, however, he was unprepared for the realities he encountered. Upon their return, Barduun had descended into madness, and Raine declined to elaborate on the events beyond the gate. Nevertheless, Barduun, despite his mental state, had gained access to the Force. This development piqued the Qrephs' interest, as they desired to acquire Force abilities themselves. However, they chose to postpone re-entry until they could gain a better understanding of the reasons for Barduun's loss of sanity.
However, the Jedi became aware of the Qrephs' experiments, which led to an assault on Base Prime, forcing an earlier timeline for entering the monolith. Raine would not open the gate for the Qreph brothers, but they had already planned ahead and created a biot of the Force-sensitive woman. Their biot, Savara Two, was successful in opening the gate, allowing them to enter the monolith. Shortly after, the Jedi Leia Organa Solo and Luke Skywalker utilized the gate to pursue the Qrephs. Following their victory over the Qrephs and their clones, they went back through the gate to leave the monolith.
