The New Face of War marked the thirteenth story arc presented in Star Wars: Republic.
Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi Master Glaive, his Padawan Zule Xiss, and ARC trooper Alpha-17 were dispatched to the moon Ohma-D'un, which orbits Naboo. The mission stemmed from reports suggesting Spice Miners had launched an assault on a Gungan settlement. However, upon their arrival near the colony, the Jedi uncovered a grim reality: the Separatists had exploited the Gungans as test subjects, employing a deadly new gas formulated by Jenna Zan Arbor on Queyta. The Separatist's scheme involved deliberately crashing a gas-laden vessel onto the moon, intending to falsely implicate the miners in the resulting devastation. The arrival of the Jedi and clone forces led to a confrontation with a droid detachment, which they successfully eliminated. As they moved to aid the miners, they were confronted by two unexpected adversaries: Durge, a Gen'Dai bounty hunter driven by a deep-seated hatred for clones due to their Mandalorian lineage (and a general dislike for Mandalorians), and Asajj Ventress, a Sith apprentice. During the conflict, Ventress fatally wounds Glaive while Anakin and Alpha assisted the miners. Ultimately, Obi-Wan and Zule managed to overcome their two enemies, forcing them to retreat from the moon. Simultaneously, Anakin and Alpha successfully destroyed the Separatist ship intended for the crash. Despite Anakin's initial reluctance to believe the Confederation capable of such actions, Obi-Wan affirmed: "Believe it, Anakin, this is the new face of war ..."
