The Star Wars: The Last Jedi original motion picture soundtrack was made available to the public on the exact same day the film was released: December 15, 2017. John Williams was again the composer and conductor of the musical score, as he had been for the seven previous films in the saga.
The Target Exclusive edition of the album came with a pair of lithograph cards that were only available through that retailer.
This soundtrack, together with the soundtrack from Solo: A Star Wars Story, received Grammy nominations for Best Instrumental Composition and Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media.
Although John Williams composed and conducted new Main Title music specifically for this film, the score from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens was ultimately used in both the final cut of the film and on the soundtrack itself.
During the scenes where Finn and Rose Tico face execution, the Skywalker lightsaber is shattered, and Amilyn Holdo's sacrifice results in the Supremacy being torn in half, the music reaches a climax that incorporates three notes from Richard Wagner's Siegfried leitmotif. These same notes are also present in Revenge of the Sith, specifically when the fallen Anakin Skywalker observes the eclipse of Mustafar's star by the planet Jestefad.
