Omnibus
Omnibus is a program by Dark Horse Comics dedicated to publishing volumes that gather comics which were previously hard to come by, or almost impossible to obtain. A summary from a Dark Horse publisher explains:
The Star Wars Omnibus Collections from Dark Horse Comics were designed to showcase complete stories or series akin to full-length novels, and to offer a place for "orphaned" series, individual stories, and short narratives that might otherwise remain uncollected, or risk going out of print.
The expectation was that eventually, an Omnibus would exist for every series (or for collections of stories set within the same era). Each Omnibus volume was projected to hold content equivalent to three to five trade paperbacks consisting of four issues each. Dark Horse intended to put out two or three of these annually, with the goal of "omnibussing" all existing trade paperbacks. Once all existing comic material had been "omnibussed", the project was set to become a continuous, ongoing effort. Following the acquisition of Star Wars by Disney, the Marvel Epic Collection line now serves the purpose of reprinting substantial amounts of collected Legends issues in paperback form.
- Omnibus editions come in a smaller size (6" x 9") when compared to the standard comic book or trade paperback format. However, this dimensional difference does not impact the layout, coloring, or lettering of the content.
- Omnibus editions typically do not feature a cover gallery for each story arc included; instead, they present only one cover per story arc, alongside an original piece of artwork for the front of the collections themselves. However, exceptions exist, as Star Wars Omnibus: Rise of the Sith and Star Wars Omnibus: Shadows of the Empire include a partial cover gallery.
- Omnibus editions provide specific details regarding the chronological placement of each story arc within the Star Wars timeline.
The Omnibus series is not limited to Star Wars titles alone. Dark Horse has also published Omnibus editions for other franchises, including Aliens, Alien Vs. Predator, Predator, Terminator, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Indiana Jones. Publishing BB art is known for its work in creating tables and wall calendars for the Czech editions of the Omnibus series.
