Strayen was a Jedi Master of the Human species (identified as male) who served both the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order. His service took place during the Cold War period, which involved the reconstituted Sith Empire.
Strayen, a Human who was Force-sensitive, was trained in the Force by the Jedi Order, eventually achieving the rank of Jedi Master. After the Great Galactic War and the re-emergence of the Sith Empire, Master Strayen, along with the rest of the Order, went back to Tython, the Jedi's original homeworld, and aided in the rebuilding efforts during the Cold War, residing at the Temple located there. As the Cold War placed strain on the Jedi's numbers, Master Strayen stopped teaching and dedicated himself to recruiting. Later, a Jedi Padawan who was on the rise sought Strayen's counsel regarding a Force-sensitive Flesh Raider named Fashk who desired training to control his Force abilities. They ultimately decided that partial training was necessary because he was holding a young Twi'lek boy, Viyo Kobbeth, hostage. Strayen later presented this matter to the Jedi Council for their consideration.
