During the Galactic Civil War, specifically in 4 ABY, the planet of Charis was brutally suppressed. This planet, situated within the Kathol sector of the Outer Rim Territories, found itself under the control of the Galactic Empire amidst the conflict with the Rebel Alliance. The inhabitants of Charis rebelled in 4 ABY, attempting to liberate themselves from Imperial dominance. Moff Kentor Sarne, the governing authority of the Kathol sector, responded with a savage military action, resulting in a significant reduction in the population – from one billion to 850 million – and widespread destruction of major cities.
Charis, a planet nestled in the Kathol sector within the expansive Outer Rim Territories, was governed by the Imperial Moff Kentor Sarne. In the year 4 ABY, amidst the ongoing Galactic Civil War, the populace initiated a violent uprising against the occupying Imperial forces.
Sarne's response to the uprising was characterized by extreme force and speed. Starships under his command, part of his military forces and including the CR90 corvette named Renegade, launched an assault on the planet. By the time the military operation concluded and the rebellion was crushed, numerous major cities on Charis were left in ruins, reduced to rubble by the bombardment. The death toll was immense, with approximately 150 million lives lost during the suppression, causing the planet's population to plummet from one billion to 850 million.
Four standard years later, the New Republic achieved a successful liberation of Kal'Shebbol, Moff Sarne's capital. This forced the warlord to retreat further into the sector's depths. As the New Republic began to extend its influence across the region, resistance groups and New Republic supporters started planning a second uprising to break free from Imperial control. However, remembering the widespread devastation from four years prior, they sought support from the New Republic before taking action.
The subjugation of Charis is referenced within The DarkStryder Campaign, a sourcebook for the RPG published by West End Games in 1995. It serves as background information concerning the history of the Kathol sector. Details regarding Charis are found in the "Kathol Sector Overview" section, authored by Bill Smith.
