T'iaz

T'iaz, an alien being strong in the Dark Side, was in the service of Emperor Palpatine. His life came to an end at Kira Fortress in 11 ABY, where he was assisting the Sith Lord in his scheme to capture Anakin Solo. During this event, he fought Rayf Ysanna, who severed his hand and took his weapon.

Biography

T'iaz, a male Dark Side Adept of a humanoid species, served Palpatine, the Galactic Emperor who had been reborn within a clone body. In the year 11 ABY, the Emperor's clone body began to deteriorate rapidly due to sabotage by the Emperor's physician, who had compromised the body before Palpatine inhabited it. All of Palpatine's other clone bodies had been destroyed, and the physician's tampering with the genetic material prevented him from creating new ones. Palpatine's efforts to generate new bodies using genetic material obtained from captured Force-sensitive Ysanna shamans from Ossus were thwarted by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker.

Desperate to save his own life, Palpatine journeyed to Korriban, the ancient world of the Sith, seeking counsel from the spirits of the deceased Sith Lords entombed there. He arrived on the planet aboard his flagship, the Eclipse II, and used a Lambda-class shuttle to descend into the Valley of the Dark Lords, accompanied by T'iaz and another Dark Side Adept. As they moved through the ancient Sith crypt, T'iaz could sense the potent dark side energy emanating from the location. The Sith spirits revealed to Palpatine that his only path to survival lay in transferring his spirit into Anakin Solo, the infant son of Princess Leia Organa Solo. T'iaz pledged to safeguard his Master once he became a child, promising to raise him to adulthood. Aware that Anakin Solo was currently aboard the Millennium Falcon, heading towards the planet Onderon, the Emperor and his Adepts returned to the Eclipse II and traveled to the Onderon system.

The massive vessel entered the system at the same time as the Millennium Falcon. However, the Falcon managed to escape and land on the planet, though it soon departed Onderon once more. Sensing that the child was no longer on the Falcon, which was being piloted by Chewbacca and the Jedi Vima-Da-Boda, Palpatine chose not to give chase. Instead, he decided to land on the planet's surface, accompanied by T'iaz and his physician. Disguised as a feeble old man, the Emperor gained access to Kira Fortress, where Organa Solo was seeking refuge with her children. The Emperor incapacitated Organa Solo and the droid C-3PO. However, Rayf Ysanna and Empatojayos Brand, two Jedi Knights who had recently arrived on Onderon with Skywalker, intervened. Palpatine used Force lightning to incapacitate Brand, removing him from the conflict. However, this exertion drained his own strength. With Ysanna remaining, Palpatine ordered T'iaz to engage him in combat. However, the darksider was easily defeated and killed.

After regaining his strength, Palpatine killed Ysanna. Han Solo and Skywalker arrived to join the battle, with Solo killing the Emperor with a blaster shot. Palpatine attempted to transfer his essence into Anakin Solo's body, but Brand intercepted his spirit, dragging him into the Netherworld of the Force.

Behind the scenes

The audio dramatization of Star Wars: Empire's End presents a different account of T'iaz's demise. In the audio drama, T'iaz does not accompany Palpatine to the surface of Onderon but instead remains in command of the Eclipse II and dies when the ship collides with the Galaxy Gun above Byss.
