Vima-Da-Boda was a Jedi Knight of the Human species and female gender. She belonged to the Sunrider family and survived both the Great Jedi Purge and the fall of the Empire. Unusually, she spoke of herself in the third person, always calling herself "Vima."
The lightsaber that Vima wielded was an ancient weapon, dating back many millennia to 10,000 BBY. Over time, it was modified so that by 10 ABY it no longer resembled the original, more primitive lightsaber designs. A Female Jedi Master eventually acquired it and passed it on to her Padawan, who then gave it to Vima-Da-Boda. Years later, Vima-Da-Boda gifted it to Leia on Nar Shaddaa. Leia subsequently used this lightsaber to sever the hand of an Imperial Sentinel before Darth Sidious caused it to explode.
Vima Da-Boda was the great-great-great-granddaughter of Vima Sunrider, and therefore a descendant of Nomi Sunrider, a legendary Jedi Master from ancient times. She dedicated over a century of her life to serving the Force. Trained by a male Jedi Master who bestowed upon her a lightsaber, Vima passed on her Force-sensitivity to her daughter, Neema. Vima began to instruct Neema in the ways of the Jedi. However, like many young students, Neema grew impatient with the slow progress of her Jedi training and sought alternative paths. Neema's impatience and lack of understanding of the Force made her vulnerable to the dark side, which ultimately consumed her, leading her to abandon her mother.
Years later, Vima received a telepathic cry for help from her daughter, who had become the wife of an Ottethan warlord. Vima hurried to her daughter's rescue in the dungeon, but arrived too late. Neema had already been fed to the rancors of Ottethan. Overwhelmed by rage, Vima used her lightsaber to bisect the warlord. With her thirst for vengeance satisfied, Vima realized that she was succumbing to the dark side herself. Gradually, her ability to sense and wield the Force diminished, although it remains unclear whether this was a consequence of her fall to the dark side or some other factor.
When the Great Jedi Purge began in 19 BBY, Vima sought refuge on Nar Shaddaa. Her diminished connection to the Force, combined with the dense population of Nar Shaddaa, may have been crucial to her survival of Order 66 and the subsequent efforts to eliminate the Jedi.
Not long after the Great Jedi Purge commenced, Vima was discovered by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Kenobi had arrived on Nar Shaddaa with the infant Luke Skywalker in search of passage to Tatooine. Vima recognized Kenobi as a fellow Jedi and shared her story with him. She also informed him of the presence of a man and woman on the Smugglers' Moon, whom Kenobi believed to be Masters Tholme and T'ra Saa. Vima offered Kenobi her lightsaber, but he declined.
In 5 BBY, Vima encountered Han Solo for the first time and foretold his future, including Mako Spince's betrayal, his involvement in a cause that would lead to him becoming a General, and his willingness to abandon his life as a smuggler for the woman he loved. He dismissed her as insane at the time and forgot about her by the following morning.
Sometime between 3 ABY and 9 ABY, Vima was imprisoned on Kessel for an unspecified offense or reason. While incarcerated, Vima discovered Kyp Durron, a young Human with significant latent Force potential. Despite her weakened connection to the Force, Vima could sense the immense, untapped power within Durron. Utilizing what little connection she had, Vima imparted to Durron what limited skills she could before being taken away by Imperial authorities under unknown circumstances.

By 10 ABY, Vima had returned to Nar Shaddaa. In that year, she sensed the Force presence of Leia Organa Solo. Mistaking Organa Solo for a Jedi, Vima recounted the story of her downfall and entrusted her with a protective box containing a 10,000-year-old lightsaber.
Following the final demise of Emperor Palpatine on Byss, Organa Solo went back to Nar Shaddaa to retrieve Vima and extract from her knowledge of the holocrons and the destroyed Jedi Order. Vima, who had recognized her mistakes decades prior, felt unworthy to serve the power she sensed in Organa Solo and the unborn Anakin Solo. However, she had little choice when they were ambushed by the bounty hunter Boba Fett. Han Solo and Chewbacca assisted the group in escaping Fett's grasp.
While en route to New Alderaan, the Millennium Falcon was forced to seek refuge from Fett within the gas cloud that was home to Empatojayos Brand's Robida Colossus. Upon their arrival, Vima and Brand aided Skywalker in training Jem Ysanna, Rayf Ysanna, and Kam Solusar, who were the first of Skywalker's Jedi students. The wisdom imparted to Skywalker and his new students played a significant role in his decision to establish the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4. Shortly thereafter, Vima employed her healing abilities to cure Skywalker of a poison injected into him by Dark Jedi agents.
After fleeing to Nespis VIII, Leia, who had been hesitant to embrace her Force potential, learned the ways of the Jedi from Vima, including how to shield the newly born Anakin. This skill allowed Organa Solo to protect baby Anakin from being possessed by the spirit of Palpatine. Vima, having reignited her light side spirit through her assistance to Organa Solo, Skywalker, and the New Republic, claimed to once again feel the flow of the Force.

The ultimate fate of Vima after Palpatine's defeat on Onderon remains largely unknown. For a time, she assisted in instructing new Jedi recruits at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4, and in 13 ABY she cautioned Skywalker about Ennix Devian. By that point, she had stopped referring to herself in the third person. After this period, she seemingly vanished.
Glynnis Talken provided the voice for Vima-Da-Boda in the Dark Empire and Dark Empire II audio dramas.
The epilogue of Star Wars: Empire's End stated that Vima disappeared on Onderon in 11 ABY during the New Republic celebration following Palpatine's defeat. However, both A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Third Edition, Revised and Expanded and the appendix of The New Essential Guide to Characters indicated that Vima served as an instructor at Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4 in her later years.
