The T-65XJ X-wing starfighter from Incom was a type of starfighter employed by both the New Republic and the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances.
The XJ series featured enhanced shield capabilities, improved agility, and greater acceleration at sublight speeds. The starfighter's armaments possessed an increased energy charge and more sophisticated targeting systems, rendering the craft a dangerous opponent to enemies of the New Republic. Furthermore, a third proton torpedo launcher was incorporated, increasing the fighter's total payload to 9 torpedoes.
Within Incom's highly successful X-wing family, the XJ variant represented one of the more recent iterations of this time-honored starfighter. Upon the outbreak of the war against the Yuuzhan Vong, these models were seldom encountered beyond the ranks of the New Jedi Order and select Star Destroyer and battlecruiser squadrons.
By the time of the Battle of Coruscant in 27 ABY, the XJ3 X-wing had entered service. These augmented the more advanced and costlier Series III E-wing escort starfighter.
The "StealthX" saw action in 35 ABY during the Killik/Chiss conflict. Jedi Knights favored the StealthX or the earlier XJ3 models. The StealthX was a clandestine strike fighter, equipped with technologies designed to minimize its visual and sensor profile, although it could be detected if backlit or when launching proton torpedoes. It was said that the StealthX was smaller than the XJ5 model. It was also described as a derivative of the XJ3.
The XJ5 (also known as "ChaseX") was also deployed during the Dark Nest Crisis. Reconstruction Authority Space Patrol units utilized XJ5 fighters. The XJ5 was shorter than the T-65C by half a meter.
The XJ6 began service with the Galactic Alliance prior to the Second Galactic Civil War in 40 ABY. Luke Skywalker's Hardpoint Squadron pilots exclusively flew these fighters.
Later, as of 40 ABY, Rogue Squadron would utilize the XJ7.
