Around 18 BBY, Shuttle 135 encountered severe weather and poor visibility as it neared the base. The shuttle crew contacted the air traffic control within the communication center seeking guidance. The Imperial weapons technicians who were on duty instructed the shuttle to adhere strictly to the designated flight path. Tragically, the shuttle was then struck by lightning and crashed in the jungle surrounding the base. Despite the crash, the connection to the control room remained active, and trooper TK-343 desperately requested assistance as the stranded crew came under attack by a dryax. However, Royce Hemlock, the chief scientist, severed the connection, declaring to the technicians that anything beyond the base's boundaries was to be regarded as dead.
