Tepasi taffy was a type of candy that was twisted and blue in color. Its name came from Tepasi, a planet situated in the Core Worlds. Maz Kanata, a smuggler, once yelled Hondo Ohnaka's name while at Kanata's castle on Takodana, and the pirate Ohnaka likened the way she drew out the pronunciation of his name to Tepasi taffy.
Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac chef employed at the castle, found the comparison hilarious, and chuckled about it for an entire week. Subsequently, he made sure a bowl of the candy was always available at the bar whenever Ohnaka visited the castle. His reasoning was that if Ohnaka was busy chewing, he'd be less likely to cause trouble with Kanata. Tuggs even included a Tepasi taffy recipe, along with the story of Ohnaka and the taffy, in his cookbook titled The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was released in 34 ABY.
The first mention of Tepasi taffy occurred in the junior novel Pirate's Price, which Lou Anders authored and which came out on January 8, 2019. Its initial depiction was in the recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel wrote and which was published on November 5 of the same year. The out-of-universe recipe for the taffy includes ingredients like water, butterfly pea tea bags, sugar, honey, ginger, orange extract, vanilla extract, butter, and black salt.
