Plot summary

In the city of Iritsa located on Chazwa, a team of bounty hunters are contacted via comlink by a mysterious individual, who requests their presence at Landing Bay 29. Upon their arrival, they encounter Rusha, a traveler hailing from Eckless. She seeks to enlist the adventurers to recover the Black Sphere from Hahz Fallone, a local entrepreneur. Rusha claims Fallone absconded with the artifact from her homeworld's treasury before being exiled by the Eckless natives.

Following their acceptance of the job, the group is approached by Falad Prok, acting as a messenger for Jorga Sune. Sune, a prominent crime lord embroiled in a feud with Fallone, learns of their mission to retrieve The Black Sphere. He proposes that the heroes simultaneously assassinate Fallone for him. Subsequently, the bounty hunters infiltrate Fallone's stronghold and abduct him. However, they are unaware that the "Fallone" they captured is actually an imposter named Gil Kogan.

After their escape from the compound, Prok's gang ambushes them, demanding The Black Sphere. During the ensuing conflict, Gil Kogan is killed, and the heroes are implicated in his death. Furthermore, they discover from Rusha that the Black Sphere obtained from Fallone's compound is a forgery.

Shortly thereafter, the bounty hunters are contacted by Tag Rayor, who asserts that he possesses the genuine Black Sphere. They arrange a meeting at the Gold Plaza to facilitate the exchange. Before the group reaches the rendezvous point, they receive a datapad message from Jorga Sune. The message reveals that he has dealt with Rusha and now requires The Black Sphere for himself. Sune offers to exonerate the bounty hunters of all charges in exchange for their cooperation in delivering The Black Sphere to him.

Upon arriving at the designated location, Tag is struck by a poison dart shooter wielded by Falad. As Falad attempts to flee with The Black Sphere, Fallone's forces appear and initiate a firefight.

Fallone's machinations result in Sune receiving a counterfeit Black Sphere. The fake Sphere leads him to a heavily fortified Imperial base, where he meets his demise during the assault. Fallone denies any knowledge of Eckless, dismissing it as a myth. He initiated the entire scheme upon learning of Rusha's presence on Chazwa, exploiting the situation to eliminate a rival.

Although the heroes are cleared of charges in the deaths of Gil Korgan and Rusha, they find themselves owing a debt to a ruthless crime boss.
