TIE Reconnaissance Fighter
The TIE Reconnaissance Fighter represented a covert iteration of the TIE Series family of space superiority fighters. Functioning as a prototype, it saw action with the forces of the Galactic Alliance, whose aviators gave the vessel the moniker "Blur" during the Second Galactic Civil War, specifically in the year 40 ABY.
Distinguishing Features
This TIE Reconnaissance Fighter was a technologically advanced spacecraft, engineered approximately one generation following the Galactic Civil War. It was the closest comparable design that Sienar Fleet Systems managed to produce to rival the Incom Corporation's StealthX.
Despite these advancements, its fundamental structure echoed earlier TIE models such as the TIE bomber, TIE shuttle, and TIE boarding craft, characterized by twin cylindrical hulls positioned alongside each other between the wings. Mirroring prior designs, the starboard fuselage contained the cockpit for the pilot.
Significant innovations were concentrated within the port-side hull. In contrast to prior twin-hull TIE designs, where this space served as a munitions bay or passenger compartment, the TIE Reconnaissance Fighter integrated a suite of sophisticated systems aimed at enhancing its effectiveness in combat and infiltration missions. This included a hyperdrive, a navigation computer, a deflector shield generator, and a comprehensive life support system—features not typically standard in earlier TIE models—along with advanced stealth countermeasures.
However, the fighter might not have reached the apex of technological advancement seen in the StealthX. At least one prototype was observed with a simple black coating on its hull, lacking the hologram-based camouflage that rendered the Jedi infiltrator virtually invisible against the backdrop of space.
Nonetheless, this fighter maintained the hallmark speed and agility characteristic of the TIE lineage.
Operational History
A prototype TIE Reconnaissance Fighter was assigned to the Star Destroyer Anakin Solo, serving as the flagship for the Sith Lord known as Darth Caedus. During the staged negotiations preceding the ambush at Centerpoint Station, it was entrusted to an officer named Captain Olavey for operational testing in live combat scenarios.
Caedus, concerned for the safety of his daughter Allana from the perceived threat of the Jedi Order, commandeered the fighter to transport the youngling away from the Star Destroyer. However, he was subsequently ambushed by Red Sword Flight, a Jedi assassination team piloting StealthX fighters.
Despite the advanced capabilities of the new fighter and the skills of its Sith pilot, the Jedi managed to inflict several damaging hits. Grand Master Luke Skywalker swiftly acquired a firing solution for a potentially fatal shot on the TIE, but he refrained from firing upon detecting Allana's presence onboard. This momentary hesitation allowed additional Alliance fighters to arrive and provide support to the TIE Reconnaissance.
