Wild Space: The Clone Wars is a novelization drawing inspiration from the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television program, authored by Karen Miller. An audio version, The Clone Wars: Wild Space(audiobook), was narrated by Jeff Gurner. Del Rey initially released it as a paperback on December 9, 2008.
The Clone Wars have spread throughout the galaxy, with the Republic and Separatists vying for dominance. While the Jedi generals are dedicated to defeating Count Dooku and his rebel forces, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine is secretly developing his own sinister schemes.
The Separatists have executed a surprise assault on Coruscant. Despite being wounded in combat, Obi-Wan Kenobi urges Anakin Skywalker and his inexperienced Padawan Ahsoka to embark on a perilous mission against General Grievous. However, when Senator Bail Organa uncovers critical intelligence that could shift the war in the Republic's favor, the Jedi Master decides to accompany him to a remote Outer Rim planet to confirm its validity. Unbeknownst to Obi-Wan and Bail, they are entering a fatal trap set by Palpatine, from which escape may be impossible.
This captivating adventure, inspired by the animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the new TV series, provides unprecedented insights into the characters of Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padmé, Yoda, Count Dooku, and other beloved Star Wars figures.
The narrative commences shortly following the First Battle of Geonosis, occurring before the conclusion of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. It is revealed that the attraction between Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala during the battle was noticed by other Jedi, including Yoda. Yoda requests Obi-Wan Kenobi to speak with Padmé to discourage her from pursuing a romantic relationship with Anakin. Using her political acumen, Padmé deceives Yoda by feigning compliance and requests Anakin to escort her back to her home world of Naboo. There, unbeknownst to Obi-Wan and others, she and Anakin intend to marry, a decision that will later contribute to Anakin's fall to the dark side of the Force. This event will occur after Anakin recovers from the loss of his arm in his lightsaber duel with Darth Tyranus.
The story then jumps forward several months into the Clone Wars, after Anakin and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano rescue Jabba the Hutt's son. Following Obi-Wan's receipt of crucial information from his acquaintance, Dexter Jettster, regarding an attack on the planet Bothawui by General Grievous, Obi-Wan sustains injuries in a surprise assault on Coruscant by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. While his injuries are serious, they are not fatal.
While Anakin leads Ahsoka and a significant portion of the Grand Army of the Republic to confront Grievous's forces on Bothawui, Senator Bail Organa receives a message from a mysterious ally indicating the presence of a Sith Holocron on the planet Zigoola in Wild Space. Organa informs Obi-Wan and Padmé, and Obi-Wan agrees to accompany the Senator to retrieve the Holocron and uncover its secrets. The Jedi and the Senator meet Organa's contact, Alinta, in Wild Space, but they are ambushed by space pirates. Alinta is killed, but Obi-Wan and Organa proceed to Zigoola. Upon arriving, they crash land several miles from the Sith temple and are forced to traverse the distance on foot to retrieve the Sith Holocron. During their journey, Obi-Wan experiences intense dark side illusions projected by the planet due to its immersion in Sith influence. Eventually, the pair barely reach the Sith temple, but Obi-Wan can proceed no further as the dark side intensifies, weakening his abilities. Obi-Wan manages to enter the Temple and destroy the Holocron, taking a crystal from the temple as it collapses due to Obi-Wan's presence. He believes the crystal can contact home. Obi-Wan recovers from the dark side's influence and uses the crystal to send a Force call to Master Yoda on Coruscant. Yoda dispatches Padmé and several clone troopers to rescue the duo from Zigoola, which they successfully accomplish.
The novel concludes with Supreme Chancellor Palpatine reflecting on the failure to eliminate Obi-Wan on Zigoola, but he is reassured by the dark side, knowing that one day, the Jedi will fall and all power will be his.
This narrative unfolds concurrently with the Downfall of a Droid episode from season one of The Clone Wars, presenting several scenes from the show through a different perspective.
Obi-Wan Kenobi's explanation to Bail Organa about the Jedi Council's knowledge of the Sith threat is portrayed as Organa's first exposure to the Sith, owing to their secretive nature. However, virtually every major war the Republic had engaged in up to that point involved the Republic and the Sith, a fact that an informed senator like Organa would likely be aware of.
The Resolute is described as a newly constructed vessel delivered from Allanteen Six Shipyards. However, the ship was present at the Battle of Christophsis, an event that occurred earlier.
The book's events transpire approximately one standard galactic month after the First Battle of Geonosis, implying that Anakin was knighted within the first month of the Clone Wars, which contradicts other C-Canon materials.
