"The Throne Room", a musical piece, was composed by John Williams and brought to life by the London Symphony Orchestra. It debuted in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and subsequently evolved into a recurring musical motif.
This composition, reminiscent of Walton's style, accompanies the medal presentation at the conclusion of Episode IV. John Williams elaborates upon it, creating a series of chromatic variations during a scene in Return of the Jedi where the Rebel fleet jumps to hyperspace. A more extensive rendition was later composed and recorded (available on the Skywalker Symphony album). This longer version was also created for the album release of the end credits for Episode III.
The theme is also featured in The Star Wars Holiday Special, playing towards the end of the program alongside archival footage from A New Hope.
Just like in the movie, this theme was used during the medal ceremony scene in the radio adaptation of the Star Wars narrative. The theme also appears in the audiobook version of A New Hope: The Princess, the Scoundrel, and the Farm Boy. Furthermore, the book's narration gives the impression that musicians are playing the theme live at the medal presentation.
John Williams crafted a rendition of the theme for the Disneyland attraction Star Wars. This track was included in Disney's Legacy Collection, a compilation of themes from Disneyland attractions.
In the non-canon LEGO Star Wars special The Empire Strikes Out, the theme is played at the conclusion when Darth Sidious awards Darth Vader a medal before a crowd of admiring fans. It also appears at the end of the audiobook version of William Shakespeare's Star Wars (Verily, A New Hope).
