Thermal Det, operating on Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War, was a Kitonak slicer who was friends with Kitster Chanchani Banai.
In the year 1 ABY, Drik Bandrik, a slaver, grew angry with Kitster Banai's constant efforts to better the lives of slaves residing on Tatooine. To sabotage Kitster, Drik Bandrik falsely accused him of numerous offenses, including the alleged killing of moisture farmer Krin Vel. However, a spacer in Kitster's employ located Krin Vel, who then assisted Kitster in gathering proof of his innocence. Kitster instructed the spacer to deliver this evidence to Thermal Det, a slicer who then uploaded the information to the HoloNet. Thermal Det also exposed Drik Bandrik's deception of the crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure, revealing that he had fabricated evidence indicating Kitster Banai led a slave uprising at Jabba's Palace some years prior. Consequently, Jabba the Hutt became aware of Drik's treachery thanks to Thermal Det, which resulted in the slaver fleeing Tatooine.
Thermal Det was a Non-Player Character (NPC) featured in the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies, before it shut down on December 15, 2011. Players undertaking a series of quests for Kitster in Mos Espa were required to locate Thermal Det and provide him with evidence proving Kitster's innocence.
The name of Thermal Det seems to be a reference to the thermal detonator.
