The central location of the Naboo monarchs' throne room was within the Royal Palace in Theed. Captain Quarsh Panaka of the Royal Naboo Security Forces requested that Eirtaé, a handmaiden, create a secret compartment inside the throne. This compartment, only accessible to the queen, held a pair of small blaster pistols, ensuring the newly selected Queen Padmé Amidala could be ready for any potential danger while receiving visitors from other planets.
For both Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace as well as its follow-up, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, the throne room scenes, along with the rest of the Palace's interior shots, were shot on location at the Royal Palace of Caserta found in Italy. The Queen's desk and the other furniture pieces were props added for the movies and were not original features of the actual palace.
