Carnivorous predators, known as Thuvasaurs, were brought to the world of Eiattu 6. These creatures were not originally from Eiattu; instead, they were deliberately introduced for hunting purposes. Possessing a remarkable ability to adapt, they swiftly eradicated the indigenous predators, establishing themselves as the dominant species. It was rumored that they shared a distant ancestry with the dewback.
Thuvasaurs were a type of reptilian, carnivorous, non-sentient species, believed to be distantly related to the dewback. These quadrupeds possessed three black clawed digits on each foot, along with a fourth claw located on their heel. Their size was considerable, capable of carrying a human rider. The thuvasaur's coloration was primarily brown, with darker brown scales covering the upper portion of their body and the outer surfaces of their limbs. Lighter brown scales adorned their underside, encompassing half of their robust tail and their spiked throats. Each brown eye was framed by a semicircle of spikes, and a solitary horn protruded from the tip of their nose above their mouth.
Although thuvasaurs were once domesticated and tamed, they reverted to being cold-blooded predators after adapting to the harsh environment of the planet Eiattu 6. Unlike their dewback relatives, thuvasaurs were aggressive and inhabited environments that were not arid, though they still avoided dense swamps. Skilled animal handlers could train these formidable creatures to serve as mounts, equipping them with saddles on their backs and bridles in their mouths.
Originally imported to Eiattu 6 as docile, domesticated animals for sport, the thuvasaurs underwent a transformation upon adapting to the challenging conditions. Over time, they eliminated the native predators, ascending to the apex of the food chain. During the Great Galactic War, thuvasaurs were utilized as mounts or kept as ornamental creatures in certain buildings and could be acquired for a price of 50,000 credits.
In 4 ABY, a stable master on Eiattu 6 engaged in a conversation with Rogue Squadron pilot Wes Janson regarding thuvasaurs. Janson subsequently shared this information with fellow pilots Tycho Celchu and Ibtisam while they were patrolling the Eiattu 6 wilderness near some deep swamps. Celchu and Ibtisam expressed surprise at the supposed relationship between the thuvasaur and dewback, given their contrasting characteristics. When the pilot Dllr Nep detected a sound emanating from the swamps, Antilles and Celchu deduced that it was unlikely to be thuvasaurs in that environment, leading them to investigate and uncover Imperial forces.
The thuvasaur made its initial appearance in the comic book X-Wing Rogue Squadron 14, penned by Michael A. Stackpole and Scott Tolson, and released on December 1, 1996. The species was visually represented for the first time in the massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars: The Old Republic, becoming accessible as part of Game Update 5.2.2 on June 13, 2017. Initially obtainable solely through Grand Chance Cubes purchased in the Cartel Market, they later became part of the "Dread Warlord Pack" on June 27 and eventually became available for individual purchase at a cost of 1,500 Cartel Coins, a form of premium in-game currency.
