Tonkins served as an agent for the Resistance. He, along with fellow agent Finn, Poe Dameron, and the droid BB-8, embarked on a journey to the Moon of Avedot. Little did they suspect that the Kendoh Gang was actively pursuing them, driven by the desire to deliver the rebels to the First Order in exchange for a reward. As a result of this pursuit, Tonkins met his demise when he was strangled by the Gang's Wooro. Subsequently, the Changeling Remex Io assumed Tonkins' identity, and, in conjunction with Kendoh Voss and Wooro, launched an assault on the remaining members of the Resistance team.
