Tony Isabella, a comic book writer and commentator from the United States, was born on December 22, 1951. He is the author of the comic "Routine." He is most well-known as the mind behind Black Goliath and Black Lightning for Marvel Comics, with Black Lightning being DC Comics' first prominent African American superhero.
In 1972, his career began at Marvel Comics as an editorial assistant. His writing credits at Marvel include Ghost Rider, It, the Living Colossus in Astonishing Tales, Luke Cage in Hero for Hire and Power Man, Tigra in Marvel Chillers, The Champions, and Captain America. He also held the position of editor for Marvel's black and white magazine line for a period. Prior to his employment at Marvel, Mr. Isabella had a letter published in Tales of Suspense #92, where he positively reviewed the Iron Man story featured in Tales of Suspense #89.
He contributed to DC Comics as both a writer and story editor. Besides his two stints on Black Lightning (once in the 1970s and again in the 1990s), he collaborated with artist Richard Howell in the 1980s to reimagine Hawkman and Hawkwoman in the Shadow War of Hawkman mini-series. This mini-series paved the way for a regular series, which he initially wrote.
He shares authorship of the short story If Wishes Were Horses... and the novels Captain America: Liberty's Torch and Star Trek: The Case Of The Colonist's Corpse (A Sam Cogley Mystery).
His regular column, Tony's Tips, appears in the Comics Buyer's Guide. This led to a more frequent online column/blog named Tony's Online Tips, catering to the different demands of the online medium.
In recent times, he has been involved in translating Disney comics from foreign languages and adapting the wording for the US market, such as "Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge #354". Furthermore, he recently announced in his column his intentions to undertake new comic book projects. He mentioned that he plans to create comics for Heroic Publishing, potentially focusing on the company's superheroine Tigress (distinct from the Marvel superheroine Tigra mentioned earlier or the DC characters).
