Routine is a comic story spanning eight pages, initially published in Star Wars Tales #2 and also in Star Wars Collectible Bonus Magazine. Tony Isabella is credited as the author. The events of the story are set in the year 5 BBY.
Captain Deyd Llnewe, in command of the Imperial vessel the Vigilant, which is a ship performing patrol duties on the border, halts a Corellian corvette named Jaina's Light that is being piloted by Han Solo. Llnewe instructs Lieutenant Raprice to carry out a Level One search of the vessel, but nothing is discovered.
On the subsequent occasion that Jaina's Light traverses the patrol area of the Vigilant, Llnewe gives the order for a Level Two examination, as he is convinced that Solo is concealing something. The examination, again, reveals nothing of a suspicious nature.
When the Vigilant intercepts the Jaina's Light for the third time, Captain Llnewe, growing impatient, calls for a Level Five examination; however, his conventional subordinate, Lieutenant Raprice, advises against the captain deviating from their standard procedures based solely on a hunch. Jaina's Light receives clearance to depart, but Captain Llnewe then deduces that they had been inspecting three separate vessels, rather than a single one, and that Solo's activity involves smuggling entire spacecraft, not just mere cargo. The Vigilant then initiates an attack on Solo, but by that point, he has already escaped.
