The Totem slaves were a group of sentient beings found on the forest moon of Endor, subjugated by the Totem Master through the influence of a magical ring.
The totem pole disguise for the Totem slaves was made possible by the magical ring wielded by the Totem Master; during the night, he would bring them back to life and exploit them to steal from Endor's residents. The group started with only three members: a blue biped, a marsupial ape, and a green arthropod. However, the Totem Master could expand their numbers by using his ring to hypnotize others. Latara and Teebo, two young Ewoks, were enslaved in this way, which increased the totem pole's size.
Ultimately, the Totem slaves gained their freedom when Wicket Wystri Warrick transformed the Totem Master into a totem pole himself, which resulted in the ring's destruction. Because the ring was destroyed, the enchantment was permanently undone.
The Totem Slaves are released upon the destruction of the Totem Master's ring.
