Traut, a male Human engaged in smuggling, collaborated with Platt Okeefe and Tru'eb Cholakk. He participated in Platt's operation to raid the Galactic Research Academy, aiming to secure a safe haven for smugglers. During this raid, the team encountered two children, Zak and Tash Arranda, along with a Shi'ido named Mammon Hoole. Together, they managed to evade stormtroopers and reached the planet Dagobah. On Dagobah, they encountered The Children, who were the descendants of deceased members of a science expedition. When Zak discovered a creature known as Yoda, Traut and another smuggler received the task of locating Yoda. Following a brief conflict with the local spiders, Traut sustained an injury. He was then captured by The Children, who were revealed to be cannibals. The Children proceeded to amputate Traut's arm and leg, using them to prepare a stew.
Traut, a married man, carried a silver promise ring as a symbol of his marital commitment. Twelve months following the destruction of Alderaan, Traut, alongside several other smugglers, made the decision to establish a new operational base to circumvent Imperial interference and competition from rival smugglers. To achieve this, they infiltrated the planet Koaan, which housed the Galactic Research Academy, a vast repository of reconnaissance data. There, they illicitly obtained data on the planet Dagobah, which had not yet been processed by the Academy's databases. In addition, they took in Mammon Hoole and his Arranda wards.
Traveling to Dagobah aboard Okeefe's Last Chance, the smugglers discovered the abandoned scouting base and established contact with a group of locals referred to as "The Children." Okeefe's vessel became submerged in the Dagobah swamp, leaving them temporarily marooned on the planet until they could recover it. It was during this time that the Arranda children revealed they were being pursued by the notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett, who had tracked them to the planet. The smugglers divided into several groups to hunt down Fett, and Traut accompanied Zak Arranda and another smuggler. In the swamp, they were ambushed by Knobby white spiders. During the ensuing battle, Traut suffered a head wound and had to be escorted back to the Shelter by some of the Children.
While the other smugglers continued their hunt, Traut was left alone with the Children. Upon their return, they discovered that the Children had amputated his arm, claiming it had been poisoned by the spiders and posed a threat to the rest of his body. A glimpse of the horrifying truth emerged when Zak discovered his promise ring in a serving of stew. By the time Platt Okeefe returned to the village, Traut's leg had also been amputated. Zak realized the Children were cannibalistic when Traut's finger surfaced in another bowl of stew. This prompted the Children to imprison him.
Ultimately, he managed to escape, and the smugglers successfully repelled Boba Fett and managed to flee the planet. They took the Children with them, entrusting them to the Rebel Alliance for rehabilitation.
