As a Kitonak who exhibited Force-sensitivity, Trick was held as a slave by Shai Tenna, who commanded the White Maw pirates. This occurred during the Cold War that took place between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire, which had reemerged. While he was enslaved, Trick suffered a skull injury that caused brain damage. Consequently, his connection to the Force only manifested when his life was in danger. Because of this, the White Maw pirates started torturing him to exploit his ability to use the Force to cloak their vessel as they navigated through space.
Later, Trick gained his freedom while stationed on Hoth during the Galactic War. Following this, he journeyed to Coruscant with the intention of receiving healing from the Jedi Order.
