The Ultrawave Transmitter, a creation of Doctor Nasan Godera, was developed sometime before or during the Cold War. This device was eventually left behind on the world of Taris, where it lay dormant and unnoticed for an extended period. The transmitter functioned by emitting a signal that could manipulate the local rakghoul communities. This capability prompted the Dark Jedi named Ki Sazen to journey to Taris alongside her Nikto adherents, with the goal of seizing the transmitter and transforming the rakghouls into her own private military force.
Consequently, the Republic Strategic Information Service, under the direction of Ardun Kothe, sent agents, including Cipher Nine and Chance, to Taris to thwart Sazen's plans. Kothe later disclosed that the Ultrawave Transmitter held the necessary activation sequences for the Shadow Arsenal located on Quesh, another of Godera's creations.
