Prior to the Galactic Empire's establishment in 19 BBY (as documented in "rise"), a captain held a position within the Trade Federation, operating on an exploration-focused starship. On a certain planet, a woman tried to exchange her six-year-old child, Everi Chalis (a female), for goods or services with the captain; however, the captain, feeling compassion, provided Chalis with nectrose crystals (flavor enhancers) because she was too young. Everi Chalis remembered this captain later, during a discussion in 3 ABY with Hazram Namir, who was a First Sergeant in the Rebel Alliance.
Alexander Freed's 2015 novel, Battlefront: Twilight Company, marked the initial mention of the captain.
