Abandoned city of the Sith

Sometime following their finding of the Circle of Visions, the Sith inhabitants of Upekzar erected a city nearby the cave system where they practiced their Mysteries' High Rites. This city stood as one of Upekzar's five primary settlements and housed the most powerful Sith Force users on the planet, owing to its close ties to the High Rites.

Description

Like all locations positioned along the Circle of Visions, the Sith's abandoned city was constructed either on an island or very near a coastline in Upekzar's southern hemisphere. Situated in the shadow cast by a sleeping volcano, the city was approximately three kilometers from the sprawling lava cave system and rhak-skuri colony. It was in this cave system that the planet's Sith residents carried out their Mysteries' High Rites. The lingering dark side presence in the area caused a large, black-gray cloud to constantly hang over the city and its volcano, flashing with blue Force lightning and producing a strong, unpleasant, cold wind that blew away from the city.

The residents of Upekzar, unlike most Sith, did not consider themselves to be conquerors. Due to their focus on metaphysical matters rather than martial pursuits, their settlement lacked the typical fortress-like characteristics. Although a practical curtain wall encircled the entire city, its exterior was richly adorned with paintings of red-eyed Sithspawn and murals depicting Sith engaged in sparring and meditation. Access to the city from the outside was granted through a seemingly harmless durasteel portcullis, and the buildings were designed with the simple intention of protecting and sheltering their inhabitants from the elements, rather than to inspire awe or instill fear in observers. Beneath a large open square in the city's center lay an underground hangar, serving as a shelter for a Sith Meditation Sphere.

History

The ancient Sith of the Sith Empire, who initially discovered and explored the Circle of Visions on Upekzar, selected five distinct locations along its perimeter to establish their settlements. Each of these settlements was built near a volcanic cave system inhabited by a colony of rhak-skuri, and each sacred site had a specific focus related to a unique aspect of the dark side. The largest city was built around the cave system associated with the Mysteries' High Rites, and it served as the home of the most powerful Sith Force users on Upekzar. This city was located in the shadow of a dormant volcano and was situated approximately three kilometers from the cave system where the Sith rituals were performed.

In 44 ABY, during the Jedi Order's quest to locate the Force entity Abeloth and the Sith Meditation Sphere known as Ship, Grand Master Luke Skywalker and a Jedi strike team investigated the ancient Sith city's ruins and the extensive cave system where the Sith had conducted their High Rites. While Ben Skywalker, Vestara Khai, and Natua Wan explored the High Rites cave system, Luke Skywalker and the main Jedi force proceeded to the city center in search of the hangar that once housed a Sith Meditation Sphere. However, upon reaching the hangar, the Jedi discovered that Abeloth had manipulated the collective dark side energies of Upekzar, compressing them within the reanimated corpse of Tola Annax, creating a Force bomb that reduced the city to dust and triggered the eruption of its once dormant volcano.
