During the Clone Wars era, which pitted the Galactic Republic against the Separatist Alliance, a convoy composed of medical ships belonging to the Republic operated within the Ryndellia system. Because of the danger posed by the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser known as the Malevolence, the convoy, consisting of three Pelta-class frigates transporting wounded clone troopers, received additional protection. This reinforcement came in the shape of a Venator-class Star Destroyer, acting as a Jedi escort.
However, this enhanced security proved ineffective during the Battle of the Ryndellia system, as the Malevolence launched an assault on the convoy. It eliminated two Pelta-class frigates and then proceeded to obliterate the Venator-class Star Destroyer, though the latter managed to remain operational for a somewhat extended time. The remaining frigate tried to flee into hyperspace, but a shot from the mega-ion cannon crippled it, leading to its destruction. Numerous Republic escape pods were launched from the fated frigate; however, the Malevolence deployed ships to hunt down and destroy these escape pods.
