The Ryndellia system, alternatively referred to as the Kaliida system, was a star system situated within the Outer Rim Territories and encompassed both Ryndellia and the Kaliida Nebula, a favored nesting location for colossal neebray mantas. This system also housed the Galactic Republic's Kaliida Shoals Medical Center during the Clone Wars conflict between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, providing care for over 60,000 injured clone troopers under the supervision of Kaminoan doctor Nala Se.
In the year 22 BBY, a Republic medical vessel traversing the system fell victim to an ambush and was obliterated by Kaleesh Separatist General Grievous who commanded the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser known as Malevolence. Subsequently, the Malevolence was assigned the mission of targeting the Kaliida Shoals Medical Center. However, before it could annihilate the station, a battle involving a Republic starfighter squadron left the Malevolence crippled, compelling its retreat from the system, where Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker later ensured its destruction.
Located in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy, in proximity to the Naboo system, the Ryndellia system, also known as the Kaliida system, was a star system positioned amidst numerous star clusters. This proximity restricted starships from plotting courses exceeding ten parsecs when navigating near the system. It was the home of Ryndellia and the site of the Kaliida Nebula, a breeding ground for immense neebray mantas. The hazardous Balmorra Run, a smuggler's route, cut through the nebula.

During the Clone Wars in 22 BBY, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, a Republic medical convoy, led by a Jedi, consisting of three Pelta-class frigates and escorted by a single Venator-class Star Destroyer, was making its way through the Ryndellia system. While in the system, the convoy was attacked by Kaleesh Separatist General Grievous aboard the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence. Grievous utilized the heavy cruiser's powerful mega-ion cannon to disable and ultimately destroy the convoy's ships.
Following the assault, Count Dooku, the Separatist leader who had been monitoring Grievous's actions, designated the Republic's secret medical station in the Outer Rim, situated near the Kaliida Nebula, as the Malevolence's subsequent target. This station provided treatment to over 60,000 wounded clone troopers under the care of Kaminoan doctor Nala Se and clone medical officers. However, the Republic, alerted by the destruction of the convoy and fearing for the station's safety, dispatched Shadow Squadron, an elite BTL-B Y-wing starfighter/bomber squadron commanded by Jedi Generals Plo Koon and Anakin Skywalker, to defend the medical station from the impending Malevolence.

To intercept Grievous before he reached the station, the squadron opted for a shortcut through the Kaliida Nebula, located within the system. While navigating the nebula, the squadron encountered a large group of nesting neebray mantas, forcing the bombers to perform evasive maneuvers before successfully exiting the nebula. Shortly after their departure, the Malevolence, forced to take a longer route around the nebula, emerged from hyperspace and commenced firing upon several medical frigates that were fleeing the station.
Subsequently, the heavy cruiser, having deployed numerous Vulture-class droid starfighters to engage the Y-wings, unleashed its ion cannon upon the bombers on Grievous's orders, even though his own fighters were within the blast radius. Despite suffering casualties, Shadow Squadron pressed forward, advancing toward the Malevolence's command bridge, maneuvering through a barrage of turbolaser fire as the cruiser targeted the medical station.

As their numbers dwindled, Ahsoka Tano, Skywalker's Padawan, suggested a change in strategy. Koon proposed targeting the cannon instead of the bridge, theorizing that it might overload when fired. Acting on this advice, Skywalker instructed his remaining fighters to focus their attack on the starboard cannon, launching multiple proton torpedoes. This attack successfully disabled the weapon and significantly crippled the warship. Shortly thereafter, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi and Admiral Wullf Yularen arrived in the system with a fleet of Republic Star Destroyers and opened fire on the Malevolence, compelling it to retreat from the system and into Separatist space, ultimately leading to the warship's destruction.
The Ryndellia system made its debut in "Shadow of Malevolence," the third episode of the canon animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season, which was initially broadcast on October 10, 2008.
