A star system existed, its focal point a dwarf star located within the galaxy, until the star's demise, which occurred around the Republic Era. Defying scientific probability, the lingering dwarf resided in space at temperatures approaching absolute zero, thereby generating gravity wells as well as other quantum disturbances in its vicinity. In 29 BBY, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi journeyed to this system, dispatched by the Jedi High Council to investigate the star, unaware that his twelve-year-old Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, had secretly accompanied him. Upon finding Skywalker asleep on the ship, Kenobi leveraged the presence of the deceased star system to impart a lesson to his youthful apprentice concerning attachment and the significance of detachment, emphasizing that all stars, regardless of their brilliance, eventually fade with time.
This dead star system appeared as part of a story told from Obi-Wan Kenobi's point of view within Mike Chen's 2022 book, Brotherhood. Chen's goal with this segment was to create a link to Matthew Stover's 2005 Legends rendition of the Revenge of the Sith novelization, where the identical event is narrated from Skywalker's perspective.
