Unidentified Executor-class Star Dreadnought

A preliminary model of the Imperial Executor-class Star Dreadnought, equipped with several cloaking devices, was under construction over the skies of Fondor in the year 3 ABY.

Attributes

This vessel shared multiple characteristics with the standard Executor-class Star Dreadnought, but notable differences existed. Beyond the installation of cloaking devices, certain sections of the ship were left unsealed and exposed, unlike standard designs. These open areas were located near the stern and bow. Furthermore, the presence of numerous red, horizontal floor girders indicated plans to divide and narrow various trenches within the ship. The exposed nature of the cloaking devices made them vulnerable. To counter this, numerous turbolaser batteries were strategically placed to eliminate the possibility of aerial attacks from starfighters or larger capital ships. This also reduced the likelihood of a strafing run by starfighters aimed at destroying the cloaking technology.

Similar to the Terror, this ship also utilized three cloaking devices to achieve invisibility. One was positioned near the bow, another directly beneath the command tower, and the third at the stern. These devices were linked to the main power generator, creating a critical weakness: the destruction of all three would lead to the ship's annihilation, as demonstrated by Rogue Squadron during their mission.

Weapons Systems

The prototype was defended by a series of turbolaser towers during its construction phase. While these defenses couldn't completely prevent attacks on the exposed cloaking devices, they presented a significant challenge for attacking Rebel fighters. The turrets were highly effective against starfighters flying too high above the Dreadnought. Many turbolaser emplacements were mounted on elevated towers.

Historical Information

One of the cloaking devices fitted onto the vessel.

Fondor Shipyards, responsible for completing the original Executor, developed a cloaking-equipped variant of the Executor-class Star Dreadnought. Its construction was part of a scheme orchestrated by Emperor Palpatine to present the Rebel Alliance with an easy victory, fostering overconfidence before the decisive Battle of Endor.

The shipyard where the prototype was stationed was protected by an extensive network of space stations equipped with deflector shield generators. In 3 ABY, a Rebel strike force penetrated the defenses, with an uncrewed GR-75 medium transport ramming the dock's main control hub.

After breaching the shield network, Rebel pilots, under the leadership of Wedge Antilles, successfully destroyed the three primary cloaking devices on the incomplete Star Dreadnought, causing a catastrophic explosion.

Behind the Curtains

The cloaked Executor-class Star Dreadnought is featured in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike.
