Unidentified freighter (Tatooine)

A transport vessel made a delivery of the largest load of DUM-series pit droids that the junk dealer Watto had ever received. This occurred on the planet of Tatooine, during the decade prior to 32 BBY. The transport offloaded its consignment at the port city Mos Espa, but only after sustaining considerable damage caused by Watto's new droids, even with the use of launcher mechanisms for storage on board. The freighter displayed a white hull on its upper portion, while the lower part of the ship was exposed, revealing various pieces of equipment.

Description

The freighter had engine units positioned at its rear and featured gold and black markings decorating its white, rounded upper hull. The Aurebesh characters "TCHJEGR" were painted on the starboard side. The bottom of the ship featured a variety of protruding devices. Functioning as a transport, it carried launchers, which were used to hold numerous DUM-series pit droids in a folded and inactive state. Its interior was gray and contained crates along with fuel tanks.

History

The freighter transported pit droid mechanics.

In the decade before 32 BBY, the junk dealer Watto contracted with the freighter to ship a large number of DUM-series pit droids, stored in launchers, to Mos Espa, a port city located on the planet of Tatooine. The value of DUM-series droid mechanics in Mos Espa Circuit's podraces sparked Watto's business interest, leading to the transport of the largest shipment of pit droids the dealer had ever acquired.

However, by the time the transport landed on Tatooine, the pit droids had already inflicted more damage while waiting aboard than even Watto's star mechanic, Anakin Skywalker, could possibly repair. The ship carried so many pit droids that they threatened to overwhelm Mos Espa, so Watto had to hire an individual to help manage his new droids as they moved from the ship to the city's podrace circuit.

Behind the scenes

The StarWars.com website first referenced the freighter in an article published on July 21, 1999. The article announced the video game Star Wars: Pit Droids, released by Lucas Learning on September 13 of that year, which featured the ship. The ship's interior provides the setting for the first of nine stages in the game.
