A Prefect, who was a male Scofti, functioned as both the Head of State and the leader of the Scoftic government in the Unknown Regions. Sometime around 36 BBY, the then-Prefect was assassinated, leading to their replacement by a new individual in the role of Prefect.
This Prefect was referenced in flashback sequences featured in Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, a 2020 novel and the initial book in Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.
