Uthtara, a celestial object situated in the Mid Rim region of space, resided within the Eucer sector. During the period of the Tionese War, this location hosted a Galactic Republic hyperspace jump-beacon. This beacon played a role in facilitating interstellar commercial traffic to the world of Okator VIII. At some point during this conflict, warships belonging to the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion, the Republic's adversaries, attacked Uthtara, resulting in damage to the jump-beacon.
The astronomical object known as Uthtara was positioned within the Uthtara system, itself a component of the Eucer sector in the Mid Rim.
The Tionese War, a conflict that erupted around 24,000 BBY between the Galactic Republic and the Honorable Union of Desevro & Tion, saw Uthtara serve as the location for a Republic orbital hyperspace jump-beacon. This beacon assisted tradeships traversing the super-hyperroute known as the Perlemian Trade Route in reaching the Divide celestial body Okator VIII. The hyperspace jump-beacon was prone to occasional malfunctions, which would prevent trade starships from reaching Okator VIII for periods of weeks until repairs were completed. During the war, Tionese raider warships mounted an attack on Uthtara, causing damage to the jump-beacon.
After the war concluded around 23,900 BBY, a Republic soldier committed to a Baragwin sense lattice an audio-visual record of a Tionese attack on Okator VIII, an event the soldier had survived in their youth. Within this record, the soldier emphasized the celestial body's dependence on the Uthtara beacon for interstellar trade.
Jason Fry conceived Uthtara for the 2012 reference work The Essential Guide to Warfare, which he co-authored with Paul R. Urquhart. John Van Fleet provided an illustration of the attack on Uthtara for the book. Fry mentioned on his personal blog that Uthtara was initially envisioned as a planet, and its inclusion in The Essential Guide to Warfare served as a "private memorial" because it was the only remaining element of a vignette that had been removed from the book prior to publication.
However, in 2014, the vignette that included Uthtara was ultimately released as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a collection of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss that featured deleted material from The Essential Guide to Warfare. The Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Uthtara system, and therefore the celestial body, within grid square R-7.
