These pirates exhibit numerous parallels with the Vagaari Empire from Zahn's Star Wars Legends novels, including the 2004 novel Survivor's Quest, marking their debut. The Vagaari pirate operations in canon closely resemble the happenings of the Outbound Flight Project as depicted in Zahn's 2006 Legends novel, Outbound Flight.
