Varmik, a Hassk criminal, could be found in Maz Kanata's castle located on Takodana. This was approximately thirty years following the Battle of Endor, just before the First Order brought about the destruction of the castle. He was armed with a worn VT-33d blaster pistol.
The character Varmik was featured in the 2015 movie Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, with Paul Warren playing the part. Ivan Manzella, an artist, conceived Varmik, initially calling him "Maz's Castle Alien c069." His design draws inspiration from a 1975 illustration of a cantina alien and an early Chewbacca design by the artist Ralph McQuarrie. The name Varmik was officially revealed on the packaging for a POP vinyl figure of the character.
