Venom Zero, also referred to as "VZ," functioned as a squad composed of Venom assault troopers. This unit served under the Galactic Alliance Core Fleet during the time of the Second Imperial Civil War. This elite unit, Venom Zero, differed from other squads in that it was not permanently stationed on any single Sabertooth-class assault/rescue vessel. Instead, it was moved between various ships as dictated by mission requirements. Just like other Venom assault squads, Venom Zero received training in close-quarters combat, combat in zero-G, and strategies for boarding enemy ships. When not engaged in active combat, Venom Zero took on the role of training other squads in advanced fighting techniques.
Mirroring other Venom assault squads, Venom Zero was well-equipped for boarding actions and close-quarters engagements. Their standard gear included Venom Assault armor, a powered armor suit that was sealed against vacuum and featured limited jump jet capabilities for movement in zero-G environments. They also carried blaster carbines, vibroswords, and various types of grenades, including stun, concussion, and gas grenades. To scout enemy positions or serve as programmable weapon platforms, they also utilized floating surveillance droids.

Venom Zero was an elite squad of Venom assault troopers that served the Galactic Alliance Core Fleet in 137 ABY during the Second Imperial Civil War. Like other Venom assault squads, Venom Zero, also known as "VZ", was a specialist in ship boarding actions, zero-G combat, and hand-to-hand fighting. Venom assault squads were deployed from Sabertooth-class assault/rescue vessels, and they would breach enemy vessels after their carrier used the "teeth" on the bow of the craft to latch onto opposing ships. The squads would then enter the captured ship from multiple breach points, suppressing enemy resistance and achieving objectives.
Unlike most Venom assault squads, which were assigned to a single Sabertooth-class vessel, Venom Zero did not have a permanent assignment and was instead constantly relocated among the ships in the Core Fleet. It was assigned to whichever vessel most needed its specialized skills. When not actively engaged in combat operations, Venom Zero was responsible for providing advanced training to the squads aboard the ship to which it was assigned.
The Legacy Era Campaign Guide by Wizards of the Coast, released on March 17, 2009, featured Venom Zero.
