Vernan, a Human doctor specializing in xenobiology, dedicated his research to rakghouls on the planet Taris during the Cold War that occurred between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. This male figure stood as one of the top three rakghoul authorities present on Taris during this period. He maintained a camp within the Republic Resettlement Zone; however, in 3643 BBY, rakghouls assaulted his camp, resulting in the death of his fellow researcher, Soylon. While in the process of composing a message for Soylon's widow, Vernan encountered Voidhound, a smuggler, who was scheduled to transport a package from Vernan to Beryl Thorne. Before proceeding with their arrangement, Vernan tasked the smuggler with completing an unfinished task left by Soylon. The following year witnessed an Imperial offensive aimed at ousting the Republic from Taris, thereby undermining the restoration initiatives. During this period, Vernan met his death at the hands of Imperial troops.
