The first encounter between Beryl Thorne and Risha occurred when the latter, still a young girl with an insatiable curiosity for the galaxy, sought adventure. This led to their friendship and partnership in various illicit activities. However, during a failed raid on an Imperial treasury station, Thorne's capture forced Risha to make a difficult decision: abandon her friend to ensure her own survival. Subsequently, Thorne was sold to a Hutt and had to fight for her freedom. Despite some lingering resentment towards Risha, Thorne maintained sporadic contact with her.
In the year 3643 BBY, Beryl was active on Taris, working alongside her droid AR-G0 and her partner Tyrodall. Tyrodall later staged his own death at the hands of the Rakghouls to establish his own independent operation. During this period, Risha dispatched her newly acquainted smuggler captain to deliver something to Beryl as part of a scheme to infiltrate a secret vault hidden within the ruins of Taris. This vault held a means to seize Nok Drayen's treasure. Upon meeting the smuggler, Thorne tasked them with delivering a package to Doctor Vernan, a scientist working for the Republic, in return for the location of the radiation vault. While the smuggler was occupied with this mission, Agent Soganti of the Republic Customs Office initiated a search of Thorne's warehouse for illegal goods. After obtaining the vault's location, the captain forewarned Thorne about Soganti's investigation, compelling her to leave the planet. The Voidhound encountered Thorne again on the planet Quesh, where she was stranded as a member of Captain Ozzik's crew, a Republic privateer.
Later, Thorne ventured out on her own, acquiring her own ship. When the Galactic War erupted, Thorne declined a privateer contract, choosing instead to transport war supplies. However, the Galactic Senate subsequently passed legislation that prohibited individuals with criminal records from engaging in such activities. As a consequence, she lost AR-G0 during an escape from Nar Shaddaa amidst infighting within the Hutt Cartel. These events left Thorne struggling financially.
Around 3637 BBY, Thorne discovered that Garblaque the Hutt was planning to escape the conflict aboard his luxurious dreadnaught named Haven. To finance the ship, he began auctioning off thousands of tickets for a ten-year pleasure cruise designed to outlast the galactic conflict. Thorne learned of two dozen tickets stolen by pirates and hidden on Rishi. Reuniting with the same smuggler who had assisted her on Taris, now known as the Voidhound, Thorne proposed a business deal. If the Voidhound could retrieve the tickets to Haven, she would sell them at a tenfold markup and split the profits. Unfortunately, the smuggler only managed to acquire tickets for deck seven, which was reserved for ammonia-breathers and non-humanoids. Nevertheless, Thorne managed to make a profit and honored her agreement with the Voidhound.
Beryl Thorne is a character featured in the 2011 Star Wars: The Old Republic video game, with Ann Christine providing her voice. She is a potential romance option for a male Voidhound.
