The eleventh episode of the animated television show Star Wars: The Clone Wars, titled "Voices," constitutes the sixth season's installment. It was initially broadcast on Super RTL, a German television channel, on March 1, 2014. Subsequently, it became available in the United States and Canada through the streaming platform Netflix on March 7, 2014.
"Yoda experiences significant unease when he perceives a voice emanating from beyond death: the voice belongs to Qui-Gon Jinn, who has passed away. Given the established understanding that a Jedi's individual consciousness cannot persist after death, the Jedi Council grows concerned that Yoda might be succumbing to the corrupting influence of the dark side. Driven by a need for clarification, Yoda departs from the Jedi Temple covertly, intending to pursue the elusive voice."
While engaged in meditation seeking insights into the creation of the Clone Army, Yoda discerns a voice identifying itself as Qui-Gon Jinn, the deceased Jedi Master. The voice asserts its integration into the Living Force, demonstrating its presence by causing Yoda and nearby objects to levitate within the chamber.
During a Council session, where Ki-Adi Mundi posits that Count Dooku is merely a Sith acolyte, Yoda appears preoccupied, capturing the attention of his fellow council members. Sensing his distress, Mace Windu proposes to Obi-Wan Kenobi in a private exchange that they should closely observe Yoda's behavior.
In the tranquil Jedi Temple garden, Anakin overhears Qui-Gon's voice calling out Yoda's name before locating the Grand Master in meditation. Yoda inquires with Anakin about his previous encounter with Qui-Gon's spectral presence on Mortis. Although Obi-Wan attributed his former master's appearance to an illusion formed from shared memories, Anakin remains skeptical regarding the Jedi doctrine that individuals cannot maintain their identity post-mortem.
Later, Yoda addresses the Council regarding the mysterious voice. After the Council dedicates an entire day to meditation in hopes of hearing Qui-Gon, Ki-Adi Mundi expresses his belief that Yoda is under assault from the Sith, reasoning that Yoda would be the prime target if they intended to strike at the Jedi Order.
The Jedi physician suggests that Yoda undergo a specific treatment to uncover the truth. During this treatment, Yoda hears Qui-Gon's voice once more, who informs him that the current method of communication is ineffective. He directs the Grand Master to journey to Dagobah and cautions him to keep this information secret.
Ultimately, Yoda finds himself confined to his bed within the hospital, with Temple Guards stationed outside the room's entrance. Anakin is tasked with assisting Yoda's escape from the infirmary, after which he proceeds to Dagobah accompanied by R2-D2.
Upon his arrival, Yoda ventures into the swamp alone. He establishes contact with Qui-Gon, who manifests as a radiant cluster of fireflies. Qui-Gon elucidates how living organisms generate the Living Force, which then feeds into the Cosmic Force, facilitating communication with the living through midi-chlorians. However, Qui-Gon explains that he cannot fully materialize due to his incomplete training. Yoda inquires if he knows the identity of the Sith Lord. Qui-Gon instructs Yoda to seek a location where the answers will be revealed.
Yoda enters a cave, where he experiences a vision depicting Jedi battling clones, and the Sith Lord, Darth Sidious, slaying a group of Jedi masters. As the vision concludes, Yoda emerges from the cave and collapses. Qui-Gon revives him, and Yoda inquires about the timing of the Sith's plans. Qui-Gon responds that the ongoing Clone War fuels the dark side. Yoda asks Qui-Gon how the Jedi can hope to survive. Qui-Gon assures him that hope persists, but it often manifests in unexpected and subtle forms. Qui-Gon instructs Yoda to travel to the Origin of All-Life in the galaxy where he will be guided in the next part of his training to retain his identity after death. Following this revelation, Yoda returns to R2 and departs Dagobah.
The vision witnessed by Yoda on Dagobah, depicting Shaak Ti's demise—impaled through her heart from behind with a blue lightsaber—mirrors a deleted scene from Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith where she is executed by Darth Vader in the Jedi Temple during the siege of the Jedi Temple.
The vision of Mace Windu being struck by Force Lightning from Palpatine, also witnessed by Yoda on Dagobah, foreshadows his eventual fate in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
There exist two distinct versions of this episode. One includes a segment where Yoda pilots his hyperspace transport ring and initiates a jump to hyperspace, seemingly intended as a commercial break during television broadcasts. This uncut version was broadcast in Germany but was absent from the Netflix and DVD/Blu-ray releases, despite a portion of the sequence appearing in a trailer for the Netflix premiere. The complete sequence was previewed before the Netflix premiere, albeit with alterations in music and sound effects; Yoda's button presses are silent in the preview, and the boarding and flight sequences feature different background music. The scene is also absent from the Disney+ release.
