A male Human hailing from Carida, Vune Willic became an Imperial Intelligence agent during the era of the Galactic Civil War. Stationed on Imperial Center, he served under Ysanne Isard, the Director of Imperial Intelligence. His initial assignment involved the assassination of his grandfather, Korval Willic, who was accused of being affiliated with the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Willic executed this task without any hesitation.
Subsequently, Willic faced accusations of attempting to assassinate Palpatine, the Emperor, during the opening ceremony of the Galactic Games. However, he was merely a scapegoat, used to conceal a security lapse within the Empire. Following interrogation, and confronted with fabricated evidence depicting his involvement in various criminal activities, Willic confessed to the alleged crimes. His execution was broadcasted live on the HoloNet a few days later, and his time on Coruscant was ultimately immortalized as an exhibit in the Imperial Heritage Museum.
Vune Willic's upbringing occurred on Carida, within the Colonies region of the galaxy, despite his family's historical roots tracing back to Coruscant. From an early age, he enrolled in the Academy of Carida, excelling in both engineering and architecture. He also captained the academy's sharpshooting team. Eventually departing from his parents on Carida, he enlisted in Imperial Intelligence as an engineer. Willic received assignment to Imperial Center, and the letter dispatched to his parents en route marked their final communication. He stood in awe of the immense scale of Coruscant's architecture, drawing comparisons to his home planet. Upon finally arriving at Coruscant's surface, he encountered Kirtan Loor, one of his commanding officers. Loor granted Willic several hours to acclimate to his new environment before assigning his first mission; Willic used this time to visit his grandfather, Korval Willic, who resided nearby.
Within a week of his arrival on Imperial Center, he met with Ysanne Isard, the Director of Imperial Intelligence. He soon realized that his marksmanship skills as a sniper, rather than his engineering and architectural acumen, were the qualities that Imperial Intelligence valued. His inaugural task involved assassinating a Rebel saboteur residing near Willic's grandfather's residence. Isard determined that his grandfather's balcony offered an ideal vantage point for eliminating the Rebel within his home; equipped with a disruptor rifle, fitted with a targeting scope designed to trigger an alarm when aimed at the designated target, he infiltrated his grandfather's home. As he readied the rifle, Korval's arrival interrupted him. Upon aiming the weapon at his grandfather, the rifle emitted a warning tone, indicating that his grandfather was the Rebel agent Willic was tasked to eliminate. Realizing his grandfather was the target, Willic fired at point-blank range without hesitation.
Following the assassination of his grandfather, Willic received both commendation and another assignment from Isard.
Mere days later, Willic faced accusations of attempting to assassinate Palpatine, the Emperor. According to Imperial Intelligence, Willic had attached scan-shielded thermal detonators to Palpatine's speaking platform during the opening of the Galactic Games on Imperial Center. They alleged that he murdered Brot Gorrell and assumed his identity as one of the platform's construction engineers, enabling him to bypass security and install the explosives. Palpatine's Imperial Guardsmen detected and disabled all but one of the charges, which detonated mere meters from the Emperor, who miraculously escaped unharmed. A HoloNet News report claimed that anonymous eyewitnesses reported seeing Palpatine utilize the Force to capture the fleeing Willic.
Willic was, in fact, innocent and was being manipulated as a scapegoat to conceal an assassination attempt on Palpatine orchestrated by high-ranking Imperials. The Empire sought to attribute the attempt to the Rebels while downplaying its severity for public consumption. Royal Guardsmen and Imperial Intelligence operatives apprehended Villic, who was publicly tried for treason two days later. Interrogated by the YI-5 Surveillance/Interrogation droid, a new interrogation droid model, he was shown fabricated video recordings of the attempted assassination. Following torture, the Caridan confessed to the crimes, believing the false videos, and was sentenced to death in an Imperial court. Despite Palpatine's purported belief that Willic was merely confused and his request for a life sentence, Isard insisted on his execution, according to falsified Imperial documents. His execution by firing squad was broadcast live on the HoloNet to deter further Rebel activity. Meanwhile, Isard had the true conspirators secretly eliminated.
Willic's life story later became an exhibit at the Imperial Heritage Museum, entitled Imperial Justice: Triumph of the New Order. Following the liberation of Coruscant, the New Republic modified the exhibit, incorporating authentic documents alongside the forged Imperial ones, including a journal entry penned by Willic.
Vune Willic exhibited unwavering loyalty to the Empire, consistently fulfilling his duties, even when personally conflicted. He executed his initial mission—the assassination of his own grandfather—without hesitation. However, his loyalty was ultimately unreciprocated; Isard exploited and discarded him despite his innocence. Willic possessed exceptional marksmanship skills, expertise in munitions and explosives, emerging talents in engineering and architecture, and proficiency as a slicer.
Cory J. Herndon created Vune Willic for an article titled Coruscant: Center of the Empire, part of the Planet Hoppers series featured on the Wizards of the Coast website. This marks his sole appearance to date.
