"Wanderer of Worlds" is a brief narrative, both written and illustrated by John Dunivant. Its initial publication was in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 9. The story is told from the perspective of the central character, Daushoroc.
In the deserts of Tatooine, treasure hunters Daushoroc and Tamoss traverse the landscape on a dewback, seeking their next score: the Athallian Messenger starship. This vessel met its end on the planet some forty years prior, carrying a payload of gemstones valued at tens of thousands of credits. This potential wealth could significantly aid Daushoroc and Tamoss in their mission to liberate enslaved members of their Eirrauc species, a peaceful group now subjugated and traded throughout the Empire. During their journey, Daushoroc is concerned about a potential confrontation with Tusken Raiders, who he suspects have killed other treasure seekers. Given their heavily burdened mount and self-made blasters, Daushoroc realizes that neither escape nor combat with the Sand People is feasible; their only recourse is peaceful negotiation.
As the suns descend, the pair enter a canyon. Daushoroc is confident in their route, thanks to information purchased from a band of Jawas, but he recognizes the inherent danger of their location. As expected, a party of Tuskens surrounds them. When Daushoroc presents items as an offering, an elder approaches: a Tusken battle talisman from their collection, along with several water packets. The elder accepts these gifts, and the rest of the Tuskens are appeased when Tamoss offers a small water vaporator. Daushoroc then shows the elder a depiction of the crashed starship; the elder points towards some distant mountains, indicating a three-day journey. As the Tuskens vanish into the night, Daushoroc contemplates the similarities between his people and these elusive desert dwellers: both simply desire to live undisturbed.
